HostSearch interviewed Kacy Carlsen, CEO of Certified Hosting. We talked with Kacy on how she built a customer-focused company that committed to provide the highest level of Customer Service available in the Web Hosting business.

  • HOSTSEARCH: What had inspired you to start a web hosting business?
    KACY CARLSEN: In 1998 I became involved with another hosting company and was immediately drawn to the business. I come from a customer service background, so helping customers was already second nature me. I have been a business owner since I was 19 years old. It seemed like a natural progression for me to start my own company. My inspiration really came from the love of helping people start an online business. Having a hosting company really puts us in the position of being the backbone for a customer's business. I truly enjoy being able to help my client's grow and succeed.
  • HOSTSEARCH: There are a few female CEOs in the web hosting industry. What is your view on this?
    KACY CARLSEN: I don't look at myself as a female CEO, I look at myself as a CEO who happens to be female. My view on the small number of female CEOs in the web hosting industry is that like other industries, women could and should be better represented. Hopefully, I can be a trailblazer in my industry.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Could you please reveal a little about yourself and your day-to-day role with Certified Hosting?
    KACY CARLSEN: I am actively involved in the day to day operations in essentially all departments. I spend most of my time doing the same thing I did when I started my business - cultivating and building relationships. Most days you will find me on some form of IM with clients discussing things from basic business shop talk, updating them with the latest technical advances in hosting, to working out great deals or helping them through an issue. Customer relations. This is definitely my strong suit and what I love doing the most.
  • HOSTSEARCH: What characteristics do you see as Certified Hosting main strength?
    KACY CARLSEN: Our main strength is our personalized customer service. We take the time to get to know our clients and their business. We try to get an understanding of what their goals are and help them achieve them. Whether it be technically or just business advice. If we have the knowledge, we will share it. We take this approach with all customers, no matter the size. We never want anyone to feel like a number, but part of a family.
  • HOSTSEARCH: What is your best selling web hosting plan, why?
    KACY CARLSEN: Our best-selling web hosting plans is our Nerd Plan. That includes unlimited domains, disk space and bandwidth, as well as a free dedicated IP and a free private SSL for less than $12 a month. It's affordable and it's a great plan for people who are just starting their business. It's flexible enough to grow with them and their business until they are ready to upgrade.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Certified Hosting is also a player in adult web hosting market. What are specials about your adult hosting plan?
    KACY CARLSEN: Our adult plans are priced the same as our Certifed Hosting plans, which we consider to be aggressively priced for both large and small businesses. However, we have more than 10 years of experience in the adult web hosting industry, so we have a specialized experience in serving the needs of our clients.
  • HOSTSEARCH: On your website, you have ASK KACY  with a feature to reply a question with video. Have you found this tool successful so far?
    KACY CARLSEN: Yes! We have received many questions from clients through this feature. There are still a few bugs that need to be worked out, but I've found this tool to be an incredible way for our clients to directly reach me with their questions - as well as have their questions answered. Also, by answering questions in a public forum, clients who might have similar questions can get their questions answered as well.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Do you have a plan to get into Cloud Hosting?
    KACY CARLSEN: It is an option we have discussed. Currently, we are looking into seeing how Cloud Hosting fits into our business model.
  • HOSTSEARCH: Where do you see yourself, Certified Hosting and the industry as a whole in five years time?
    KACY CARLSEN: As the economy slowly turns around, the businesses that provide more than just basic service to consumers will be the ones that survive and thrive. Certified Hosting is one of those businesses because we pride ourselves on aggressive pricing, but also on the high level of 24-hour customer service.
