.ORG Domain Registrations Up, Suggests Web Host 1&1
May 30, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web host 1&1 (http://www.1and1.com) has suggested the number of registrations for domain names with the .ORG extension went up over the last 12 months, it was reported recently. The company suggests their sales of domains with the .ORG extension went up as much as 31% during the period. The company, which bills itself as “the world's largest web host by known servers”, attributes the growth to the “increase in web activity within the non-profit and charity sectors”.
According to, 1&1 between December of 2006, and December of 2007 it registered over 70,000 .ORG domains. The company cites the New Jersey firefighter's association website, www.NJBCFA.org, as an example of the success of .ORG domains.
The company suggests a .ORG domain “gives the organization an internationally recognized emblem of legitimacy and non-profit status”. "Our website has been vital for building support, sharing information and recruiting volunteers,” explained N.J.B.C.F.A’s Ray DiPatri . “This Firefighter Association has been meeting for over 90 years and our website will help recruit new and younger members. The .ORG domain name is an extension of our non-profit identity and conveys the spirit of volunteerism: doing without financial reward."
