Web Host 1&1 Supports Renewable Energy for its US Data Center |

October 2, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web Host 1&1 (http://www.1and1.com) is supporting renewable energy for its data center in Lenexa, Kansas, USA, the company announced yesterday. 1&1 is purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from the non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). The company will offset electricity usage at its data center though RECs sourced from the Bowersock Mills and Power Company's hydroelectric facility in Lawrence, Kansas, USA. All the RECs 1&1 purchases from BEF will be certified under the Green-e(r) Energy program, the United States’ “leading voluntary certification program for renewable energy”. According to the company, the move will save 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

"We are proud to now be the first big hosting company with all our data centers' energy usage offset by renewable, clean energy.
