3D development platform provider
Unity Technologies (Unity) has formed a “strategic alliance” with Google Cloud. Unity, which has headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, was established in 2003. Aside from the United States, the company has a presence in Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Singapore, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. It provides “the world’s most widely-used real-time 3D (RT3D) development platform”. The platform offers content creators a range of tools that enable them to create interactive 2D, 3D, VR and AR games. Unity’s move to Google Cloud is intended to “democratize connected game development”.
Together Unity and Google Cloud will offer developers a wealth of development tools and the infrastructure required to create single and multiplayer connected games at a “global scale”. The companies will offer a suite with features that will accelerate connected game development and include server hosting support for multiplayer games. Developers will be able to access Google Cloud directly from Unity without cloud expertise. Unity has also decided to migrate its own infrastructure to Google Cloud.
“Much like Unity is dedicated to democratizing game development, we're committed to democratizing the use of advanced technology through the cloud,” explained Google Cloud’s CEO, Diane Greene. “We're excited to work together with Unity to ensure developers have the tools and infrastructure they need to build, launch and grow games at global scale.”
“Migrating our infrastructure to Google Cloud was a decision made based on the company’s impressive global reach and product quality,” suggested Unity Technologies’ CEO John Riccitiello. “Now, Unity developers will be able to take advantage of the unparalleled capabilities to support their cloud needs at a global scale.”
