Actress Marisa Guterman Sues DreamHost

March 4, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Actress Marisa Guterman is suing web hosting provider DreamHost, it was reported by a number of sources recently, especially PageSix.com (http://www.pagesix.com). Ms. Guterman, who had a role in the 2005 Steve Carell film “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, alleges the company registered her name as a domain without her consent.

In the “The 40 Year Old Virgin” Ms. Guterman plays a character - simply called “Girl with Braces” - who wears extremely prominent and unattractive dental braces. Ms. Guterman, who is suing DreamHost for “invasion of privacy” through the Los Angeles Superior Court, contended that the company’s domain redirected visitors to pages featuring orthodontics, dentistry, and singing lessons, as well as unauthorized images of herself.

Established in April 1996, DreamHost is a trademark of New Dream Network, LLC and bills itself as being “owned by its employees”. The company offers a range of ‘green’ services including shared hosting, dedicated servers and domain name registration. The company caters for over half a million domain names and utilizes a network of mainly Debian GNU/Linux-based servers.
