Advanced Enterprise Security Company Blue Coat Acquires Cloud Security Company Elastica
Advanced enterprise security company Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Blue Coat) has acquired cloud security company Elastica. Blue Coat, which has headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, United States, caters to a 15,000-strong customer base that includes large global companies. The company specializes in uniting “network, security and cloud” through its Blue Coat Security Platform. The acquisition has cost Blue Coat in the region of $280 million.

Elastica specializes in ensuring a customer’s employees are “enabled to use most efficient cloud services and mobile, to stay agile and competitive”. The company’s services offer a strong focus on security. With headquarters in San Jose, California, United States, its products and services include the CloudSOC™ Platform which “enables companies to leverage cloud apps and services while staying safe, secure and compliant”.

“This acquisition gives Blue Coat customers access to Elastica’s CloudSOC, which brings an unprecedented level of elegance and innovation to something that is rapidly becoming a complex challenge for organizations to solve,” explained the CEO of Blue Coat, Greg Clark. “As we evaluated many CASB players, it was clear that Elastica’s technologies represent the future of the CASB space. Segmented CASB players have survived through their dependency upon existing on-premise infrastructure. As the industry’s leading web security platform, it is natural for Blue Coat to be the first to deliver an extended spectrum of CASB capabilities while also delivering them with our cloud protection solutions.”
