On the heels of releasing a series of dedicated options for resellers and web developers, AIT (http://www.ait.com) has unveiled a mid-level plan for businesses who are equally demanding about performance from their server and service provider. The offering includes 80GB of disk space and 1,000GB of data transfer, and users can buy additional IP addresses at a nominal charge for setting up test or secondary accounts. “This is a fully-managed server, with support and maintenance guarantees,” said Kirk deViere, AIT’s Chief Operating Officer. “It’s made for businesses that generate high traffic, need to install specific software or applications, and can’t afford the performance issues that can occur when several web sites share a server.”
Earlier this year, AIT developed 3 other dedicated plans: a self-managed model, a server with the Ensim Pro software to automate common hosting tasks, and a fully-managed version. Each is focused toward developers, designers, resellers, and ISP’s who are interested in multiple domain hosting. “This plan is for the single business domain – online merchants with large digital showrooms, or professionals whose sites have to do more than provide contact information,” said Chief Executive Officer Clarence Briggs. “
This plan comes just after AIT’s release of firewall software and port monitoring services for the dedicated market. The firewall is a layer of protection beyond safeguards that protect the AIT network, and the monitoring services keeps up with demands on server processes and improves resource management. “We’ve seen tremendous growth in the dedicated market this year, partly because prices have dropped industry-wide, but also because businesses are becoming less reluctant to share server space with hundreds of other sites,” said Briggs. “Businesses going dedicated are those whose web sites are a major function, and they can’t afford other people’s misuse of resources slowing them down.”
