AIT E-commerce Hosting Gets a New “Pal”

March 8, 2004
AIT has integrated Pay Pal into its e-commerce software, giving the hosting company's network of 190,000 business domains one more means of capitalizing on the growing online retail market. "Our aim has always been to remove barriers to success for our customers and resellers, and this does that," said Clarence Briggs, AIT's Chief Executive Officer. "The millions of people who use Pay Pal accounts for their online purchases represent potential new customers for our thousands of online merchants." Pay Pal has been integrated into both versions of AIT’s proprietary Mcart shopping cart software as one of the checkout options that appear on the payment interface.

Pay Pal has more than 40-million member accounts in 38 countries, and makes it easy for any business with an e-mail address to send and receive payments online. It is particularly beneficial to businesses that don’t have an established merchant account or want to avoid the expense of setting one up. “The ability to plug Pay Pal into our existing package made this an easy decision for us,” said Kirk deViere, COO of AIT. AIT’s integration with Pay Pal allows online merchants to instantly access an online payment solution. “Our customers can seamlessly include it in their digital stores, making it easier for their customers to do business.”

The Pay Pal addition is part of an e-store package that includes tools for calculating sales, factoring in shipping costs, controlling inventory, and it also has several security features. At a projected 65-billion this year, online retail is a relatively small part of overall sales, but it is becoming a medium of choice of the typical consumer. Forester Research says online sales will grow by 25% this year. “What our merchants are seeing is that e-commerce is by no means limited to large corporations; there is a place for the small business and our agreement with Pay Pal speaks directly to that type enterprise,” said Briggs.

Founded in 1996 in North Carolina, AIT, Inc. provides web hosting and e-commerce services to more than 190,000 domains in 107 countries. AIT is recognized among the fastest growing technology companies in North America, and is the only hosting company listed on both the Inc 500 and Deloitte & Touche Fast 500. AIT also offers data storage, software development, IP telephony, security services, application hosting, and a technical education center.
