AIT to Host Microsoft ASP.NET Conference

March 29, 2004
AIT will be the site of a Microsoft ASP.NET training seminar in April. That event will come on the heels of the North Carolina-based hosting provider’s bi-annual reseller conference. AIT is part of Microsoft’s early adopter program for the .NET initiative and will be one of a handful of locales to host such an event. “This is a tremendous learning opportunity for all of our resellers, but especially for those who work in the Windows environment,” said Clarence Briggs, AIT’ Chief Executive Officer. “We have seen significant growth in our Windows customer base and this is a means of providing them with practical help.”

The three-day event walks attendees through the creation of a working e-commerce site, from architecture design and construction to migration and deployment. “Students will not only learn how to build .NET web projects but also how to incorporate pre-existing skills from platforms like ASP, PHP, and Java Script,” said Chris Villinger, a Microsoft product manager. “These seminars are done in interactive fashion with live demos as we walk them from concept to finished product.” The first two days of the seminar focus on the .NET Framework and Visual Studio tools. The third day is built around ASP.NET development with supplementary modules that factor in pre-existing skills in different languages.

AIT has been the setting for case studies of other Microsoft initiatives, including an automation tool for deploying the Enterprise Edition of Server 2003 and the SharePoint collaboration software. The company’s Windows hosting plans are .NET-enabled and AIT also supports Cold Fusion MX. In each case, there are options for both resellers and end users. “Our advanced developers, in particular, are always pushing for a means of affordably hosting the dynamic applications their businesses rely on,” said Kirk deViere, Chief Operating Officer at AIT.

The ASP.NET seminar will held April 26-28 at the AIT Center in Fayetteville and reservations are required. It will follow AIT’s semi-annual reseller conference, which features hands-on sessions with the company’s technical and marketing staff. “We’re primarily a service company but we put a heavy emphasis on training, both for our staff and for customers, so they can become more comfortable with their hosting plans,” said Briggs. “The AIT web site is full of demos and tutorials, includes a customer service library, and has an entire backroom of information for building an Internet business. Obviously, the ASP.NET event is a step beyond that, but it’s in keeping with our philosophy of arming customers with as much knowledge as possible.”
