Amazon.com Launches Amazon S3 in Europe

November 9, 2007
November 9, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/) has launched Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) in Europe, it was announced recently. The company is tapping into the market for localized hosted storage within the EU by providing the same service as launched in the United States in March of 2006, but apparently more localized.

“We’ve been working hard to make this a reality and are excited to offer Amazon S3 from European data centers,” a number of sources quoted Amazon Web Services’ Vice-president of Product Management and Developer Relations, Mr. Adam Selipsky, as saying.

Despite the company’s efforts to localize its service, payments are still made in US Dollars and support is not being offered in the various European languages. One bonus for customers though is that by utilizing the service, they immediately comply with European data protection laws.

Amazon S3 sits alongside a range of Amazon.com web services including Amazon E-Commerce Service (Amazon ECS), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) – currently a limited beta, Amazon Flexible Payments Service (Amazon FPS) – another limited beta, and Amazon Mechanical Turk (Beta) and Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS). The company also offers a number of services through Alexa.com.
