Big Blue Acquires TV Everywhere Company Clearleap, Inc.
IBM – often referred to as “Big Blue” – has acquired “TV everywhere” company Clearleap, Inc. (Clearleap). IBM, which has headquarters in Armonk, New York, United States, is a globally recognized brand traditionally recognized for hardware and software solutions. Over recent years the company has been making giant strides towards redefining itself as a cloud company, particularly through its acquisition of SoftLayer in June 2013. IBM will integrate Clearleap’s offerings into the IBM Cloud platform. This latest acquisition comes in the wake IBM’s purchase of Cleversafe in November 2015.

Clearleap, which has headquarters in Duluth, Georgia, United States, bills itself as “the first to offer a complete rethinking of the technology platform needed to prepare and securely deliver massive video libraries both to traditional TV systems and new multiscreen devices”. The company provides cloud-based IP video platforms that facilitate content delivery by TV and content providers, enabling media and entertainment companies to monetize video usage via the web and mobile devices. Its video services will be available through the IBM Cloud and managed by IBM’s global networks of data centers. Clearleap’s partners include HBO and the NFL alongside Time Warner News Alert and Cable and Verizon.

"Clearleap joins IBM at a tipping point in the industry when visual information and visual communication are not just important to consumers, but are exploding across every industry," explained IBM Cloud’s Senior Vice President, Robert LeBlanc. "This comes together for a client when any content can be delivered quickly and economically to any device in the most natural way."
