BlueTie Awarded Key Patent for Secure File Transfer

August 4, 2005
August 4, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Hosted services firm BlueTie has been awarded a U.S. Patent for its secure file transfer system. The system uses two forms of encryption (synchronous and asynchronous) to enable sending and receiving electronic documents and files between two parties via the Internet without any software.

BlueTie’s secure file transfer system enables businesses and organizations that are required to comply with privacy and security regulations such as those imposed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to have a simple and secure means of compliance when transmitting sensitive information.

The patent is a U.S. Patent, and was invented by David Koretz, BlueTie’s founder, President and CEO.

“BlueTie continues to push the limits of Web technology. The secure file transfer system is an incredible innovation that enables any user to send and receive secure files without having any technology knowledge,” said David Koretz, President & CEO.

The Patent covers a system which uses an applet (small temporary file) to double encrypt the file that is to be sent. The encrypted file is sent to the BlueTie server in small pieces and the server notifies the recipient via email that they have a file awaiting pickup. The recipient of the file uses the applet which can run on any Java-enabled web browser to download, and decrypt the file.

The Secure systems’ patented technology is fault-tolerant and will resume sending or downloading the file where it left off if interrupted during transmission. It also provides a notification when files are downloaded and offers access controls based on sender-defined timeframes and permissions.

This functionality is available as a seamlessly-integrated option in BlueTie’s award-winning hosted Business Class Collaboration and Email products. Any user can buy secure file capabilities on an a la carte basis, enabling key personnel to safely transmit important business and personal information via the web.

Many companies have shown an interest in licensing the secure file transfer system for other applications that need an easy-to-use way to send and receive files on the Internet. Traditional systems require a manual key exchange and are too complicated for the average small business.

BlueTie’s Secure File Transfer System was approved by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office without any objections. It is the second US Patent issued to BlueTie during the past year. Additional Patents are currently pending.
