Neo-Nazi Sober Worm Variant Reaching Epidemic Levels in Europe

May 19, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - In web hosting security news today C I Host issued a warning on a new mutation of the computer worm Sober. The attack begins by email proming free tickets to the World Cup from its governing body FIFE. Should an email recipient download the attachment and infect their computer the worm then harvests address book email addresses and begins to issue neo-Nazi style spam.

The outbreak began in Europe and is spreading to North America and the rest of the world. European experts say the Sober attack has hit epidemic status because of soccer's popularity in Europe although this must undoubtedly be working in Americans favor as the World Cup and soccer are so unpopular by comparison. Variants of Sober have circulated since 2003 and continued to hit corporate and home systems, because people open attachments despite warnings.
