University Research Collaberative Seeks Web Hosting in Exchange for Technology and Free Beer

Share
January 24, 2005 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – As a part of the Resilient Overlay Networks project, MIT and it's collaberators are searching for a web host to donate service. As part of a multi-university collaborative project Carnegie Mellon University’s David Anderson recently sent out a request, “We've been running a moderate sized (30 node) overlay network and general network research testbed for the last 4 or 5 years. The test bed started as part of the Resilient Overlay Networks project at MIT, and has evolved to support a variety of research by about 15 network researchers at a number of institutions. At this time, the primary institutions involved in the test bed management are MIT, CMU, NYU, and the University of Utah. Our major goal for the testbed is to have access to a realistic set of Internet paths - we want to make sure that network research actually takes place in the real world, not a perfect isolated environment."

This PC the group would like to run will feature a FreeBSD kernel provided by the project with a 10/100 Ethernet interface.
Anderson commented that the groups researchers are experimenting with data transfer protocols and more efficient ways of shipping things (like news) around the net.

In return the group promises a locally hosted stratum 1 time source for clients use, information sharing and possible research participation, debugging tools, eternal gratitude, and even free beer within the confines of Pittsburg!

Those interested should contact Mr. Anderson at dga@pobox.com
