The WWF-UK Chooses Green Web Hosting

August 1, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – The World Wildlife Fund in the UK (WWF-UK) has chosen green web hosting for its web operations, it was reported recently. The organization, a conservation fund, has acquired new hosting services for its “public facing website, its web database and its developer platforms” through UK business IT services provider, Carrenza (http://www.carrenza.com/). The organization has chosen Carrenza’s Utility Computing Service (UCS), which is based on a virtualized platform that has reduced the amount of energy used for hosting WWF-UK’s website by 20%.

“We run a content-rich website that is vital to our UK operations, so we need a hosting solution and provider that is totally reliable,” explained Adrian Cockle, Interactive Production Manager at WWF-UK. “We chose to work with Carrenza because their UCS will allow us to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, but also because we trust them to keep us online and deliver an excellent level of performance. The migration to the UCS platform in early July was handled so seamlessly that staff didn’t realize it had happened.”

Carrenza’s UCS environment uses a network of dedicated servers to provide hosting over a virtual platform. The environment caters for possible spikes in WWF-UK’s website visitors, while allowing a significant reduction in its server hardware requirements.
