Carrier and Colocation Data Center Services Provider Interxion Holding NV Announces Eighth Data Center
Carrier and "cloud neutral" colocation data center services provider Interxion Holding NV has announced its intention to build an eighth data center. The facility will be built in Frankfurt at a cost of €30M ($39M) for the first two phases and be known as “FRA 8”. It will also be built into Interxion’s "Connectivity Hub" of 150 popped carriers and Internet Service Providers, and a "core node for DE-CIX" which contains over 450 carrier and ISP connections.

Interxion offers data center services in Europe and caters to a broad customer base. It operates 34 energy-efficient data centers in 11 European countries. The company's move is a response to increased demand for its services.

Interxion has acquired 6 megawatts of additional power for FRA 8 for the new facility, which will be built in four phases and ultimately provide around 3,600 square meters of equipped space located within the company's existing Frankfurt campus. Phase One will be operational in the first half of 2014, while Phase Two will be operational in 2015.

"The consistent demand we are experiencing in the Frankfurt market is driven by cloud service providers, digital media, and financial services customers attracted to our vibrant Connectivity Hub," explained Chief Executive Officer at Interxion, David Ruberg. "We are prudently allocating capital in phases to respond to this demand from our communities of interest while maximizing returns."
