Central Backup Management Console Scales to Tens-of-Thousands of Servers

December 20, 2011
December 20, 2011 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – R1Soft has announced the release of Continuous Data Protection® (CDP) Data Center Console, its management platform for large-scale backup installations. Compatible with R1Soft’s CDP 3.0 Enterprise and Advanced Edition products, the Data Center Console provides a centralized dashboard for efficient monitoring and administration of backups across up to 100 or more CDP Servers. The Data Center Console can support mixed Windows/Linux environments and manage offsite CDP Servers across WANs, which is particularly useful for companies dealing with multiple data centers or branch offices.

Users familiar with R1Soft CDP may recognize CDP Data Center Console as an evolution of R1Soft’s CDP for Data Centers. While the Data Center Console serves the same general purpose as its predecessor, it brings with it many performance enhancements, including significant improvements to scalability and architecture.

Features of CDP Data Center Console include:

• Central management for up to 100 or more CDP Servers
• Dashboard to quickly identify problems
• Single user sign-on authentication across CDP Servers
• Console is not a single point of failure for CDP Servers when unavailable
• Manage cross-platform Windows and Linux CDP Servers from one Console
• Manage CDP Servers across different data centers and remote branch offices
• Works across both LANs and WANs

The Data Center Console allows users to identify backup problems at a glance and drill down for more information on individual CDP Servers including associated volumes, disk usage, or policies and to identify and fix issues. Up to 100 or more CDP Servers can be added to an individual Data Center Console as needed, allowing Console users to scale up as their business grows. The Data Center Console eliminates certain vulnerabilities that often exist in management of large scale server backups by providing a unified login across all CDP servers. Console users are automatically pushed down to CDP Servers allowing management of CDP Servers even if the Console is unavailable. This allows individual CDP Servers to still be managed independently, so the Console is not a single point of failure.

“Scalability is key feature of our CDP Enterprise and Advanced Edition backup products. We know our clients are always looking to grow, and it’s important to us that we design products that can support their growth” explained David Wartell, vice president of R1Soft, a division of BBS Technologies. “CDP Data Center is an extension of that desire. With it, we can help customers bring greater control and administrative efficiency to increasing complex backup environments. Whether the customer has one server or 100,000 servers to backup, R1Soft CDP can meet his backup and disaster recovery needs.”
