Chinese cloud computing provider
Kingsoft is forecasting 'sustained growth' in 2015. The company, which is based in Zhuhai, China, offers a range of solutions including WPS Office and mobile phone apps, is a partner of Xiaomi, recognized globally as a mobile phone manufacturer. Later this year Kingsoft will cater for Xiaomi’s substantial global customer base.
The Chinese cloud computing industry generated 117.41 billion Yuan (US$19 billion) in 2014 and enjoys considerable support from the Chinese government, with plans to revise regulations and provide tax breaks to spur investment in cloud computing. Kingsoft is a key cloud provider for Xiaomi, dealing with 70% of its cloud storage. It is Xiaomi's only mainland China cloud provider.
In 2014 Beijing-based Xiaomi saw a sevenfold increase in storage requirements selling 61 million handsets worldwide, a staggering 227% increase on the same period the previous year. However, Kingsoft see opportunities beyond its partnership with Xiaomi, particularly in the Chinese cloud market.
“It is quite fortunate that Xiaomi is a close partner of ours, given how its user base and activity have grown very quickly,” explained Zhang Hongjiang, Chief Executive of Kingsoft Cloud in a report by the
South China Morning Post. “And it will continue to grow as long as Xiaomi grows. People are just using their phones a lot more, and are taking a lot more pictures than before,” he added.
