iomart Group has extended one of its United Kingdom-based data centers. Located in Maidenhead, Berkshire, which lies south of the River Thames, the data center lies in the constituency of the UK governments’ Home Secretary, the Right Honorable Theresa May MP. Being in her constituency, Ms May was present to open the facility.
iomart Group is a leading British provider and its latest center means it now operates eight locations centers around the United Kingdom. The group manages a fast fiber network which supports its various brands, which include Melbourne Server Hosting, RapidSwitch, Redstation, Backup Technology, Easyspace and iomartcloud. The company’s extension to its Maidenhead data center has meant a “multi-million” pound investment on behalf of the company.
The center “features the first major deployment of Cisco® Dynamic Fabric Automation (DFA) and Bi Directional (BiDi) Transmission technology” and has room enough to store 30,000 physical servers, and around 500,000 virtual servers. “Data centers are an important part of the global economy, so I’m delighted to be opening this new facility for iomart,” explained Ms. May. “The technology on show is impressive and will allow businesses to be better connected than ever.”
