Cloud Equity Group Acquires Joomla and WordPress Specialist CloudAccess.net
Cloud Equity Group LLC (Cloud Equity Group) has acquired Joomla and WordPress specialist CloudAccess.net (CloudAccess). CloudAccess, which has headquarters in Traverse City, Michigan, United States, offers a “a comprehensive hosting and support platform for the Joomla! and WordPress Content Management Systems (CMSs)”. The company caters predominantly to small- to medium-sized businesses and manages over 20,000 websites. Its customers include Barnes & Noble and The Boston Children’s Hospital. Financial aspects of the deal were not released.

Joomla is an Open Source (OS) Content Management System (CMS) that stemmed from the Mambo project in the 1990s. It is available free of charge and can be used to manage anything from individual blogs to complex corporate websites. WordPress is also an OS solution for developing websites. Originally a blogging tool, as of February 7, 2014 WordPress underpinned 74,652,825 – or 18.9% – of all websites. Together Joomla and WordPress are used for over 25% of the world’s websites. The solutions help businesses reduce costs as often websites can be developed and managed in house.

“The CloudAccess.net team is thrilled with the acquisition which is viewed as a perfect organizational fit by everyone from senior management down”, explained CloudAccess.net’s CEO Jonathan Gafill. “We now have a clear path towards maximizing growth potential and we look forward to becoming a resounding success in Cloud Equity Group’s expanding portfolio.” Mr. Gafill remains as the company’s CEO.
