Cloud Giant Alibaba Announces Launch of Data Center in Indonesia
January 10, 2019
Cloud giant Alibaba has announced the launch of a new data center in Indonesia. Alibaba is the globally renowned Chinese ecommerce giant whose cloud arm, Alibaba Cloud (known locally as ‘Aliyun’), is one biggest cloud providers globally. The company is expanding and has an extensive network of data centers both within China and internationally. These include cloud data center regions in the Middle East, Asia (Singapore and Malaysia), North America, Europe, and Australia. Its latest data center is the company’s second in Indonesia.
Alibaba Cloud’s second Indonesia data center doubles its capacity in the country and comes less than a year after the first center’s inception. The launch is a response to increased demand for the company’s cloud services within the region, particularly increased demand for ‘Big Data’ and analytics solutions. The two centers will “offer a comprehensive suite of products and services, ranging from elastic computing, database service, networking, storage, security, and middleware, to solutions that address vertical industry challenges”, explained a company press release. These will services will also include disaster recovery options. Users will benefit from the ability to deploy workloads in a variety of availability zones.
News of the launch comes alongside Alibaba Cloud’s launch of its ‘Internet Champion Global Accelerator Program’ - a scheme designed to enhance the global digital economy. "With better connectivity and a fast-growing digital community, the Indonesian market presents enormous opportunities to both local and global enterprises," suggested Alibaba Cloud’s General Manager of Singapore and Indonesia, Leon Chen. "By doubling our data center capacity and launching the Internet Champion Global Accelerator Program in Indonesia, we aim to further build the cloud ecosystem and talent pool for Indonesia."
