Chinese cloud giant Alibaba Cloud (Alibaba) and Indian telecommunications solutions and services provider Tata Communications (Tata) have formed a partnership. Alibaba, which has headquarters in Singapore, is a the cloud arm of the Alibaba Group. With a global customer base of around 2.8 million customers, the company offers cloud computing and data management solutions to individuals and companies both in China and around the globe. Its partnership with Tata is designed to benefit enterprises in the sub-continent region.

Tata has headquarters in Mumbai, India and is part of India’s Tata Group. The company owns and operates the largest fiber optic cable network in the world, taking in around 200 countries and territories globally. The network represents 20% of all global Internet routes. Its partnership with Alibaba is intended to give India and around 150 other countries access to Alibaba's ‘ExpressConnect’. Announced at the recent Cloud Computing Conference in Shanghai, China, ‘ExpressConnect’ will give users high-speed connection to Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs). With access made via Tata Communications' ‘IZO Private Connect’ service, companies will be able to “scale their cloud connectivity and enable rapid provisioning of capacity to Alibaba Cloud”.

Alibaba Cloud offers a range of cloud computing services that extend to cloud computing, cloud database management, networking, cloud security and cloud storage. The ‘IZO’ cloud enablement platform allows companies to connect and build private, public or hybrid clouds, depending on their requirements. "We look forward to working closely with Tata Communications in a bid to provide an exciting proposition with great connectivity for global enterprises wanting to enter China and for Chinese enterprises looking to go global with ease and convenience," explained the Deputy General Manager of Alibaba Cloud Global, Yeming Wang.

"The partnership will assist both of us to become digital transformation partners for our customers, empowering them to expand to new geographies, boost productivity and safeguard their businesses against threats," added Tata Communications’ President, Global Network, Cloud and Data Centre Services, Genius Wong.
