Cloud Giant Alibaba Launches Big Data Solutions in China
Cloud giant Alibaba has launched ‘Big Data’ solutions in China through its AliCloud (Aliyun) cloud computing arm. Alibaba is an ecommerce company which provides a range of services. Established in 1999 under the leadership of Executive Chairman and founder Jack Ma, the company’s services include online auctions, mobile commerce and online money transfers. The company has made significant gains in the cloud arena over recent years.

Big Data services look at the huge, diverse amounts of data company’s generate (including emails, text and images) to establish actionable patterns that might not have been previously apparent. Alibaba is offering around 20 options through its new “Big Data Platform” including data analysis and data visualization.

“The Big Data Platform fulfills our vision of sharing our vast data troves that will create immense value to our users,” suggested Simon Hu, the President of AliCloud at the initiative’s launch in Shanghai. “What we want to do at Alibaba is turn the data-processing capacity and data-security capabilities that we’ve accumulated over the last decade into a product, so that data becomes a resource and a service that we can provide our clients.”
