Cloud Giant AWS Offers EC2 Dedicated Hosts
Cloud giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced it is offering a new feature - EC2 Dedicated Hosts. The company, which has headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States, has introduced the feature with companies that have purchased a large number of software licenses in mind. EC2 Dedicated Hosts replicates how physical servers are controlled and enables businesses to utilize cloud-based servers that comply with their software licenses.

The new feature addresses the requirements of software licenses for solutions such as Windows SQL Server, Windows Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Oracle Database by applying existing server-based licenses products to the cloud. The feature helps companies address regulatory and compliance issues by making visible the number of sockets and physical cores to enable users to match software licenses and hardware.

Dedicated Hosts are available in Northern Virginia, Oregon, and Northern California in the United States as well as in Ireland, Frankfurt Germany, Tokyo, Japan, Singapore, Sydney, Australia and Brazil. Up to 2 Dedicated Hosts per instance family can be allocated. Companies are also able to use AWS Config to track instance history.

“I am happy to be able to announce the Dedicated Hosts are available now and that you can start using them today,” explained Amazon’s Chief Evangelist Jeff Barr on his blog. “You can launch them from the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, or via code that makes calls to the AWS SDKs”.
