Cloud Giant Microsoft Acquires Cloud Security Company Adallom
As rumoured earlier this year, cloud giant Microsoft has acquired cloud security company Adallom in a move that bolsters its cloud software security capability - particularly in terms of identity management - and adds another layer of security to its cloud offerings. The news has yet to be formerly announced by Microsoft, but it was reported by Israel’s Calcalist newspaper and mentioned on the Microsoft blog. Financial aspects of the deal have yet to be released.

Adallom, an Israeli company, was established in 2012 and has 90 staff globally. Its services enhance security for a range of cloud applications including Office 365, Google Apps, and Salesforce and ServiceNow apps. The company’s solutions monitor cloud usage at the employee level and isolate anomalies to highlight data breaches. This is Microsoft’s fourth acquisition of an Israeli company this year.

"Adallom expands on Microsoft's existing identity assets, and delivers a cloud access security broker to give customers visibility and control over application access as well as their critical company data stored across cloud services," explained Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise Marketing Takeshi Numoto on Microsoft’s blog. "Adallom works with popular cloud applications including Salesforce, Box, Dropbox, ServiceNow, Ariba and, of course, Office 365. As a cloud-delivered, security-as-a-service, Adallom will complement existing offerings that Microsoft makes available today as part of Office 365 and the Enterprise Mobility Suite, including our recent Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics release."

“When we launched Adallom, we had a vision to make it easy to keep your data safe in the cloud,” explained a statement on Adallom’s website. “We have delivered on that vision with visibility, governance and protection for the most popular cloud applications used by businesses worldwide and now, by joining Microsoft, we will have the opportunity to help many more customers take advantage of cloud applications without compromising security. We will continue to sell the Adallom solution and support our customers while we complete the integration into Microsoft,” the statement added.
