Cloud Giant Microsoft Announces New Program for Research and Higher Education Institutions in India
Cloud giant Microsoft India has announced a new program for research and higher education institutions in India. The program is designed to enable institutions to provide students with skills in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies. Microsoft will set up an AI infrastructure and Internet of Things (IoT) hub for institutions it selects as part of the program. The company will additionally support institutions by providing ‘Azure AI Services’ including ‘Bot Services’, ‘Microsoft Cognitive Services’, and ‘Azure Machine Learning’.

Microsoft’s scheme will develop faculty members’ skills and then in turn develop students’ skills and expertise. It will support institutions with curriculum and content and they will receive infrastructure support. Microsoft will also provide cloud and AI services access and access to developmental tools. The three-year collaborative program will encompass around 100 institutions and benefit Microsoft by producing an AI-ready workforce.

“With AI being the defining technology of our time, it is transforming lives and industry and the jobs of tomorrow will require a different skillset,” explained Microsoft India’s Country General Manager-PS, Health and Education, Manish Prakash. “This will require more collaborations and training and working with AI. That’s why it has become more critical than ever for educational institutions to integrate new cloud and AI technologies. The program is an attempt to ramp up the institutional set-up and build capabilities among the educators to educate the workforce of tomorrow,” he added.
