Cloud Giant Microsoft to Offer UK-based Cloud Services
Cloud giant Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft) is to offer UK-based cloud services towards the end of 2016. The company, which has headquarters in Redmond, Washington, United States, will make Office 365, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online available from its UK data centers. The plans were announced by the company’s CEO, Mr. Satya Nadella. The news comes as the company’s Ireland and Netherlands-based data center facilities are undergoing expansion.

The move will enable UK users of Microsoft’s cloud services to comply with the country’s data residency requirements. All data backup and recovery activities will take place within the UK’s shores. Microsoft also plans to offer Azure ExpressRoute from the UK to provide customers with private cloud connections. Microsoft already provides its cloud services to a number of key British companies including Marks & Spencer, Pizza Hut Restaurants and Virgin Atlantic. The UK’s Ministry of Defence has also expressed an interest in Microsoft UK-based cloud offerings as they will meet its own security standards.

“At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more,” explained Satya Nadella. “By expanding our data center regions in the UK, Netherlands and Ireland we aim to give local businesses and organizations of all sizes the transformative technology they need to seize new global growth.”
