Linode has opened a new datacenter in Germany. The company, which was established in 2003, caters to a 400,000-strong global customer base and operates four datacenters in the US and four others in Europe and Asia. Its services are offered on a "pay-as-you-use" basis without the necessity of lengthy contracts. Linode's services boast SSD storage, Intel E5 processors, 40Gbps of redundant network, and KVM-powered hypervisors. It is possible to establish a Linode cloud server "in under a minute for as low as $10 per month".
Located in Frankfurt, Linode's new datacenter strengthens its presence worldwide and was a response to increased customer demand for its services. Frankfurt was selected for its "central European location" and the fact that "more than a third of Europe's Internet traffic travels through the digital and financial hub of Frankfurt".
The new facility complements Linode's London datacenter and with its launch Linode's capacity in Europe has increased twofold. The benefit of the datacenter to Linode's German customers is that it enables them to meet the requirements of the German Federal Data Protection Act. This act requires data about Germans be held within Germany's borders. Linode leverages TelecityGroup's colocation and ISO 27001certified datacenter services for its European datacenters, and has not yet announced where its next datacenter will be located.
