Cloud leader
Oracle Corporation (Oracle) has announced additional investment in the United Kingdom. Oracle, which has headquarters in Redwood Shores, California, United States, offers a “comprehensive and fully integrated stack of cloud applications and platform services”. The ‘Oracle Cloud’ provides SaaS, IaaS and PaaS solutions alongside an ‘Autonomous Database’ service, ‘Cloud Security’ and ‘Cloud Platform for Applications’ offerings. Oracle’s “multi-million pound” investment will be directed at its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory in Reading in Southwest England.
Oracle’s Reading, UK office opened in 2015 and leads the corporation’s global AI activity. The company’s investment will see it draw on “the region's strong technology talent” which includes data scientists. Oracle has suggested it will double AI staffing in the UK. "The global AI development hub in Reading accelerates innovation and helps customers take advantage of these critical emerging technologies by making them pervasive throughout our cloud offerings," suggested Oracle’s Chief Executive Safra Catz in a report by the UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.
Oracle is making great strides in the cloud arena and last month launched AI-based blockchain-based supply chain management tools. The company is also leveraging Machine Learning to build chatbots that can have genuine voice and text conversations with a company’s customers. It also uses Machine Learning to modify its customers’ websites.
