March 12, 2008
March 12, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Internet Service Provider Cogent Communications (http://www.cogentco.com/) has selected Internet Facilitators Limited, or IFL, (http://www.internetf.co.uk) to host its tier 1 network expansion, it was reported yesterday. The multi-year contract will see the company “host critical network infrastructure” at its data center in Manchester, UK.

Cogent, ranked as “one of the top five networks in the world”, offers services over an 80-180 Gbps fiber optic, IP data-only network. According to the company, its backbone “spans over 26,500 miles, connecting to an additional 10,500 miles of metro networks”. IFL, a neutral colocation service provider, is offering a solution that includes “rack space within a secure caged environment with dual power supplies, protected by high capacity N+1, environmentally friendly and energy efficient infrastructure”.

"Having a leading communications provider such as Cogent in our facility further increases accessibility to world class Tier 1 networks from IFL data centers and is fantastic news for ebusiness nationally,” Internet Facilitators’ Sales Manager, Matthew Edgley “The continued expansion of such networks means Manchester is increasingly regarded as a major Internet hub and the number one UK location for colocation and data center services outside of London. IFL is proud to be a pioneer of this development."

"The IFL standard of facility and infrastructure complements our own uncompromising approach to quality, uptime guarantees and resilient delivery of service,” explained Cogent’s CEO, Dave Schaeffer. ”IFL's plans for data centre expansion further enhance the opportunity for Cogent to continue to expand its footprint while remaining one of the most cost-effective providers of bandwidth in the world."
