Colocation and Cloud Services Provider Zayo Announces Plans to Acquire Connectivity Solutions Company Viatel
Colocation and cloud services provider Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (Zayo) has announced plans to acquire connectivity solutions company Viatel. Zayo, which has head offices in Boulder, Colorado, United States, was established in 2007. The company offers a range of services including network infrastructure, carrier-neutral collocation and connectivity options. Its acquisition of Viatel will strengthen its position as an infrastructure provider in Europe.

Viatel is a Digiweb Group company with a UK office in Egham, Surrey, an office in Paris, France and a head office in Dublin, Ireland. Established in 1991, Viatel is a telecommunications company. Zayo will purchase Viatel’s “non-Irish infrastructure and enterprise businesses” in a deal that will cost around €95 million ($101 million) in cash. After the purchase Zayo will have a “Pan-European intercity and metro fiber capability via an 8,400 kilometer fiber network across eight countries”, adding “12 new metro networks, seven data centers and connectivity to 81 on-net buildings” to Zayo’s infrastructure.

“Viatel’s long-haul fiber network and colo assets combined with Zayo’s existing national UK, France and U.S. networks provides truly international, seamless connectivity for Zayo’s existing and new customers,” explained Zayo’s CEO and Chairman, Dan Caruso. “Our Pan-European infrastructure capability addresses new growth opportunities, including connectivity to key subsea cable systems delivering traffic to and from high-growth regions such as Asia and Africa.”
