NYI, a New York City-based mission-critical data services provider, today announced that it has achieved compliance with Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) at its two main data centers, located at 100 William Street in Lower Manhattan and 999 Frontier Road in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
SSAE 16 is a statement on controls at service providers that assures customers their data is protected by the most current international industry standards, as put forth by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
SSAE 16 is a new compliance standard, which all service organizations are required to have implemented. It replaces the SAS 70 Type II standard, which ceases to be valid on June 15, 2011, the SSAE 16 deadline.

According to AICPA, SSAE 16 differs from SAS 70 by bringing US service organization reporting standards closer to the international standard, ISAE 3402. Differences include a management assertion section in the audit report, which demonstrates a working knowledge of the organization's controls. The subsequent audit, SSAE Type II, requires tracking of changes to controls, including who approved changes.
