Communication Solutions Provider Comcast Business Announces Ethernet-focused Data Center Program
Communication solutions provider Comcast Business has announced a new Ethernet-focused data center program. The company, an arm of Comcast Cable - the United States' "largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to businesses and residential customers" - has made the move in a bid to make cloud applications more accessible to its customers.

Comcast Business provides a range of cost-effective services for companies of all sizes including enterprise-grade Internet, Ethernet, TV and voice offerings. Its Ethernet-focused data center program will better support companies involved in activities such as data storage and backup, billing and hosting. The services launched in 2011 and today the company leverages an extended fiber network that caters to data centers and cloud providers, and which includes around "one million Ethernet-enabled buildings".

The move to hybrid IT solutions has meant that multi-tenant data centers currently drive more network traffic and interconnection. Comcast Business's fiber network and Ethernet services now include 325 data centers in United States. These centers include individual Tier I facilities and multi-facility Tier IV providers of colocation, managed hosting and cloud services. The company has partnered with a range of data center providers to extend the reach of its network and rapid Ethernet provisioning.

“For CIOs and IT departments, sourcing their business applications to a multi-tenant data center or cloud is only viable if their business locations have private Ethernet connectivity to ensure application performance would be the same whether the server is on-site or hundreds of miles away,” explained Comcast Business' Executive Director, Data Services, Mike Tighe. “Our focus is on being the data center and cloud-neutral transport provider that empowers businesses with a choice in hybrid IT solutions and massive Ethernet network reach to connect data centers and cloud services to more than one million Ethernet-enabled buildings.”
