Data center company Equinix, Inc. (
Equinix) has acquired a data center in Istanbul, Turkey. Equinix, which has global headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States, has a global network of data centers, including its ‘SG2’ center in Singapore which was recently expanded at a cost of $41.8 million. Established in 1998, the company offers a wide range of IT and cloud strategies designed to help businesses grow. It acquired the Istanbul center from Zenium Data Centers (Zenium).
Zenium, which has headquarters in London, United Kingdom, provides "innovative solutions" that set "new standards in data center design and operation". Signed October 6, 2017, the acquisition extends Equinix's capacity in Turkey and the immediate region. The "all-cash" deal cost $93 million while the center generates approximately $2.5 million in annual revenue. It will be renamed 'Equinix IS2' and currently offers 1,500 square meters of colocation space (which can be increased to 12,000 square meters). The location of the data center is key - Turkey provides access to both Europe and Asia - and the acquisition will enable Equinix to better cater to increasing demands for colocation and interconnection services in the region.
"The dynamic evolution of digital technology is disrupting how business is done across all industries, forcing companies to invent new, information-centric business models," explained Equinix's President, EMEA, Eric Schwartz. "These business models rely on interconnection and distributed IT architecture. As the Turkish economy continues to grow, Istanbul will become an increasingly important hub for connectivity and technology infrastructure, and this new campus will help Equinix meet this demand from customers across our global customer base."
