Equinix, Inc. (Equinix) has added Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect availability at its Dallas, Texas, United States and London, United Kingdom data centers. Equinix, which has headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States, operates in 33 markets globally and bills itself as connecting the world's “leading businesses to their customers, employees and partners inside the most interconnected data centers”. Making AWS Direct Connect available through its Dallas and London International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers extends the services’ availability to 10 Equinix data centers worldwide. Equinix now has two data centers in Europe with AWS Direct Connect available and 4 in North America. The service’s availability in London gives Equinix customers in Europe and the UK “consistent, dedicated network connection to the AWS Cloud for higher performance at a lower cost”.
In a bid to benefit from the cost reductions and scalability inherent in the cloud, numerous businesses wish to establish hybrid clouds by connecting directly with AWS. However, these companies wish to keep on-premises infrastructure fully accessible and secure. The availability of AWS Direct Connect in multiple markets around the world helps these companies achieve their goal. AWS Direct Connect enables companies to connect their own infrastructures to AWS by making a private connection that results in “reduced costs, increased throughput, and consistent application performance”.
