Data Center Company Equinix Opens New Data Center in Brazil
Data center company Equinix, Inc. (Equinix) has opened a new ‘International Business Exchange’ (IBX) data center in Brazil. With global headquarters in Redwood City, California, United States, Equinix offers internet services such as cloud options through a global network of ‘carrier-neutral’ data centers. Known as SP3, its latest data center is in the city of Santana de Parnaíba near São Paulo in Brazil.

Equinix’s new center is reported to have cost $69 million to build and addresses increased demand for interconnection and colocation services (particularly from enterprises, financial services firms and cloud and IT providers) within the region. Equinix “is home to the densest concentration of network carriers in Brazil” and SP3 represents the company’s fifth IBX data center in Brazil to date – three other centers are in São Paulo and the other two are in Rio De Janeiro. Close to the Bovespa stock exchange, SP3 offers direct connectivity to financial companies in the area.

When fully completed SP3 will become “the largest multi-tenant data center in Latin America”. The facility will then double Equinix's available space in Brazil by offering over 215,000 square feet of data center space and 2,775 cabinets. 90,000 square feet of the facility will be dedicated to colocation services. The facility has already signed up 30 customers.

"Our continued growth in Brazil highlights strong demand for hybrid cloud and greater interconnection as enterprises are looking to move to a globally distributed architecture so they can better interconnect people, locations, clouds and data at the edge of corporate networks,” explained Equinix’s President of Americas, Karl Strohmeyer.
