Data Center Company QTS to Develop Data Center Campus in Virginia
Data center company QTS Realty Trust (QTS) has announced it is to develop a data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia, United States. Established in 2005, QTS has headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas, United States. The company offers more than 5 million square feet of data center space and deals with around 1,000 customers globally. Over 50% of phase 1 of the new development has already been pre-leased.

QTS' move is designed to secure its position as the United States' Tier 1 data center leader. The company will purchase 52 acres of land in Ashburn at a price of $53 million. The site of the new center is adjacent to its campus in Dulles, Virginia. The new site "can ultimately support a total of more than 700,000 square feet of raised floor capacity and 140 megawatts of gross power". Phase 1 will be delivered mid-2018.

"We are excited to have additional sellable capacity in a strategic QTS market to expand our ecosystem of more than 130 customers currently supported within our Northern Virginia footprint," explained QTS' CEO and Chairman Mr. Chad Williams. "Our fully-integrated 3C platform, combined with mega data center scale, position QTS to take advantage of increasing hybrid IT requirements, particularly from hyperscale companies."
