Data Center IT Solutions Provider OnX Enterprise Solutions Acquires Managed Services Provider Worknet
Data center IT solutions provider OnX Enterprise Solutions has acquired managed services provider Worknet, Inc. The company, which has headquarters in Toronto, Canada, made the move to strengthen its cloud and managed services activity and extend its presence in the United States. Although details of the cost of the acquisition were not released, the deal was reported to have been based on a cash payment.

Set up in 1996, Chicago, Illinois-based Worknet, Inc. focuses on managed hosting and disaster recovery solutions. The company owns and operates two SSAE 16 certified data centers and provides "Remote Monitoring and Management Services" including dual site solutions. Alongside the purchase, OnX has set up a "dedicated business unit" which will combine the OnX and Worknet's managed services operations into a single unit. The new OnX Managed Services will offer self-service and fully managed cloud offerings through Worknet's Chicago facility and provide Worknet's existing customers with access to IaaS cloud infrastructure and hybrid dedicated and cloud solutions.

OnX Enterprise Solutions designs, builds and manages complete cloud and managed services and data center environments. The company caters to a broad customer base with a staff of 600 IT professionals and has offices in North America and Europe. The new OnX Managed Services will employ 70 people and serve around 300 customers. It will have headquarters in Chicago and be managed by Terry Whiffing, the interim general manager of OnX Managed Services.

"We are thrilled with today's announcement and welcome the Worknet team and customers to the OnX family," explained OnX Enterprise Solutions' CEO, Ed Vos. "This acquisition gives OnX further reach into the US managed services market and includes two US data centers that can service our existing customers in the United States. In turn, the entire OnX US sales force will have access to an in-country based multi-tenant cloud and managed services offering, which is ideal for clients who are sensitive to where data resides."
