RagingWire is to invest $150 Million in the US state of Virginia, therefore qualifying for Virginia sales tax exemption for itself and its customers. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell opened RagingWire's Ashburn facility and was instrumental in helping the company acquire its sales tax exemption. The investment will create 50 new jobs in the state.
RagingWire is involved in designing, building, and operating data centers and currently operates 650,000 square feet of a carrier neutral, EPA ENERGY STAR-rated data center space in Northern California and Ashburn, Virginia. The company, which offers colocation solutions for retail and wholesale customers, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) that will see the company's investment move into the state over five years, earning the company tax exemption on the purchase of computer and data center equipment that will also apply to its customers, which include companies like DreamHost.
The announcement indicates some of the key reasons why Virginia is regarded as one of the leading US states for business. A number of studies have recognized the state for low business costs and a high-quality workforce. The opening of a new Virginia data center is also in line with RagingWire's expansion plans, that include a data center in Sacramento, California.
"Our agreement with the VEDP strengthens our commitment to the localbusiness community and encourages companies looking for data center space and colocation in Virginia to consider the many benefits of choosing RagingWire," explained RagingWire's Chief Financial Officer Mark Morrow. "Equally as important are the tangible financial benefits that our customers gain from this agreement, as it promotes their growth from within our facility."
