Data Services Provider NYI Announces Aggressive IPv6 Support

February 18, 2011
February 18, 2011 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – NYI, a New York City-based, mission-critical data services provider, today announced an aggressive program to raise awareness of IPv6, the new network address protocol that succeeds Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), an outmoded technology in use since 1981 whose supply of addresses is reaching critical levels. NYI's efforts will include an aggressive rollout of the new protocol as well as participation, along with Google and other tech titans, in World IPv6 Day on June 8, 2011.

According to a recent interview in TechNewsWorld.com with ICSA Labs' Guy Snyder, there are currently only five percent of IPv4 addresses left, with the supply expected to be exhausted in the next 10 to 12 months. Thankfully, with the stance of NYI and other like minds in both the mission-critical data services industry and government, the situation represents an opportunity, rather than a cause for alarm.

"We have been studying this issue for quite some time, which means we have a flexible, comprehensive solution that focuses on the multiple benefits of IPv6," said Phillip Koblence, VP Operations, NYI. "Of course, as with all of the solutions we deploy, we stand ready to personalize the solution to perfectly fit the needs of an individual business."

He continues, "Although some might insist on native IPv6 at the outset, we have contingencies in place to manage translators and the tunneling of IPv6 on IPv4. As we have found, there are a plethora of methods to address the situation, while leveraging the many technological advancements of the new protocol."

Among such advancements are increased address space, which improves performance rate and security due to flexibility in allocating addresses and routing traffic. In addition, IPv6 reduces latency through simplified address assignment (stateless address auto configuration) and network renumbering (prefix and router announcements) when changing Internet connectivity providers.
