OVH has opened a "Research and Development" center in Quebec City - its first in North America. The center represents an investment of $32.9 million and will bring 150 jobs to the area. The news comes in the wake of $327 million of fundraising achieved last year designed in part to finance its North American activities.
OVH focuses on providing cloud, web, and dedicated Internet infrastructure services. It has 17 data centers worldwide and manages around 200,000 servers. Recognized as a "Digital-as-a-Service" leader, it chose Quebec City because it is well-known as an area of "technological dynamism". The center will receive the support of economic development agency Québec International, and receive $400,000 in support from Investissement Québec and Quebec City, money which will be used to generate "50 high level jobs", recruit "highly qualified collaborators", and enable the company to network with Québec's startup community.
OVH's new center comes 2 years after it first investment in the area - in Beauharnois in Montreal. The company will also establish 100 new business development, system administration and technical support jobs, the bulk of which will be located at the OVH's Montreal-based North American headquarters. The company will also "triple the surface area of its Montreal offices by the end of the first quarter of 2015".
"It is with great pleasure that we reinforce OVH's position in Quebec," explained OVH's Co-founder and Deputy CEO, Mr. Henryk Klaba. "This new expansion will highlight Quebec's expertise and propel the innovation of our products and services to the benefit of all our international clients."
