Domain Marketplace and Monetization Provider Sedo Marks 30 Years of '.Coms'
Domain marketplace and monetization provider Sedo has marked the 30-year anniversary of domain names with the '.Com' extension. The company, which has headquarters in Cologne, Germany and facilities in Boston, USA, is recognized as having "the world’s largest database of domain names for sale". The company is currently managing the sale of around 18 million domains and caters to a global customer base of around "2 million domain professionals". Despite the advent of a multitude of domain name suffixes, the company recognizes that the .com extension is "clearly the King and Queen of Top Level Domains (TLDs) to date".

Roughly 50% of the domains Sedo is managing the sale of have the .com extension, and this in turn represents "8% of all the .com domains registered to date". Despite hundreds of TLDs now being available, .com was the original suffix and remains the most recognized in the market. While Sedo's sale of "sex.com" was the most lucrative domain it has sold, it has also been involved in a wide range of premium .com domain transactions. 2.5 million .com names are currently parked with Sedo.

“Our market experience over the last 15 years has shown that .com has always been a great contributor to sales volume and values," explained Sedo's CEO Tobias Flaitz. "Even with the periods of change the internet landscape has undergone in general and specifically the domain industry– as what’s happening right now and during the last few years –.com remains supreme. Sedo has maintained its status as the world’s leading domain name marketplace with the help of .com’s success, so we also feel a sense of achievement in its 30th anniversary milestone.”
