The awards have been distributed to the recipients who come from all over the U.S. following each student’s submission of an essay. Their work had to describe how they have utilized the power of the internet when furthering their education.

Some of the ideas from the winning students included starting a non-profit organization to creating a small business. One of the winning applicants, Nina Brante discussed the story of how she earned her award.

"I created a website using Go Daddy for domain registration and WebSite Tonight for hosting and design. We wanted to let girls know they could sell their old dresses to earn money, as well as purchase the right dress at an amazing price,"
