70 Million Internet Domain Names Have Been Registered says Web Hosting Provider and Domain Registrar Dotster
April 28, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web hosting provider and domain registrar Dotster recently announced the likelihood that over 70 million Internet domain names have now been registered. According to the company, the rapid growth of domains may have a number of social consequences.
"While more and more businesses are taking advantage of the innovation and power offered by the Internet by registering domains, an equal number of individual users are registering for domain names as well. Verisign reports suggest that 8.5 million new domains were registered in the 3rd quarter of 2005, up a third on the same time the previous year. Other reports have suggested that global Internet usage now exceeds 1 billion users. "While some may have the perception that all the good domain names are gone, the reality is that what we are seeing today is only the frost on the tip of the iceberg," added Kilroy. "It's still very much a buyer's market as far as online real estate goes.
