January 12, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web hosting provider Web Drive has acquired web hosting and domain name business Openhost, the company announced recently. With the purchase more than 3,000 customers are added to Web Drive’s books.
"We're very excited about taking over Openhost," says Managing Director Daniel Williams. "While Web Drive offers a premium service, the Openhost brand will strengthen our position in the discount market, and that's a really important place to be because it's such a fast-growing market."
Openhost started in 2005 and became one of New Zealand's leading providers. Following Web Drive’s acquisition of 1,500 customers from Christchurch-based provider Webbase last year, the acquisition of Openhost represents significant consolidation of New Zealand’s hosting industry.
Web Drive was established in 1997 by five teenage friends. The bulk of the company's customers are small to medium-sized businesses.
