Easyspace is supporting a Salford man in his bid to promote talented unsigned musicians.
Raymond Rowe, aka DJ HankyPark, has launched online radio station Newusb, which stands for ‘new unsigned bands,’ to showcase the talent of singers and bands who feel they get ignored by the big record labels.
Raymond said: “We have over 500 artists on our website all playing different genres of music, from flautists to hard core punk bands. They have a lot of talent but often no budget or platform to promote themselves or they just want to remain independent. Our aim is to give them an open door to an audience which otherwise might never get the chance to hear their work.”
Web company Easyspace provides round-the-clock hosting on a dedicated server so the radio station’s website is always available online.
Sarah Haran, managing director at Easyspace, said “I’m delighted that Newusb has chosen Easyspace for its hosting and to buy its domain names. The online radio station is a great idea to promote independent and unsigned bands and artists. You never know it might just unearth the next Oasis or Elbow.”
DJ Hankypark also promotes the unsigned artists during the sets he plays at music events around the UK and in Europe. Plus he invites bands to play ‘live lounge’ concerts in the front room of his home in Salford which are then broadcast live over the internet by Newusb.
“We’ve even partnered with a live lounge event in California recently,” he added, “so there’s definitely an appetite out there for new talent.”
Artists featured on the site include Rainy and the Dust, who have supported jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, ArtieQ who has written songs for films but never quite made it is a fully-fledged recording artist, to the Passion Flowers who, according to Newusb, are the least downloaded band on iTunes.
