Web Host EuroAccess Must Provide Details of Torrent Site Administrator

July 15, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web host EuroAccess must provide details of a torrent site administrator who hosted the site “Torrent.to” on its servers, a court in The Netherlands has stipulated. In addition, the company will be forced to pay all costs of the court case brought against it for “facilitating copyright infringement”.

The case is one of a number of high-profile prosecutions related to Torrent sites in The Netherlands, where courts recently forced web host Leaseweb to shut down “EverLasting.nu”. The EuroAccess case was brought after pressure from Dutch anti-piracy organization BREIN (http://www.anti-piracy.nl), who monitor abuses of intellectual property rights related to music, film, video and interactive software. The EuroAccess case has caused some controversy as BREIN was not specifically required to prove that Torrent.to was actually infringing copyright.

“Hosting providers have to take responsibility,” website TorrentFreak (http://torrentfreak.com/) reported BREIN’s Managing Director, Tim Kuik as saying. “EuroAccess hosts several illegal sites and servers, and didn’t respond to inquiries from BREIN and others. This has to change.” Reports suggest that “Torrent.to” has now been moved to Sweden.
