Dutch Carrier-Neutral Data Center EvoSwitch to Double Capacity |

April 2, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Dutch carrier-neutral datacenter EvoSwitch (http://www.evoswitch.com) will work with network manager Continuon to increase its power capacity from 10 MVA to 20 MVA (or 20 million Watts), it was announced yesterday. New cabling will be added to facilitate the CO2-neutral datacenter’s expansion using Zeeuws Groen “green” electricity - electricity 100% generated from sustainable energy sources such as wind, sun and biomass.
2000 square meters out of the available 9000 square meters at the EvoSwitch data center have been operational since its April 2007 launch. The increase in power capacity is required to facilitate expansion to 4000 square meters of capacity due in the second quarter of 2008. Work to expand the center to full capacity is will be complete by 2009.
“The expansion of our data centre requires a total power capacity that can accommodate the growth of our customer base,” explained EvoSwitch’s Innovation Director, Laurens Rosenthal. “EvoSwitch users must also be certain that they will be able to buy the power they need for their equipment in the future as well. With 20 MVA, we can give our customers that guarantee.”
To double power capacity EvoSwitch will have to buy four new 2.5 MVA capacity transformers. “Our investment illustrates our faith in the market for datacenter services,” added Rosenthal. “In view of the warm interest customers have shown in our green data center and the speed at which we have filled cabinet space in recent months, we are confident that we will actually use the doubled power capacity.”
EvoSwitch is located in Haarlem, The Netherlands and has 30 employees. The company works with the Climate Neutral Group and invests in “global projects to restore the CO2 balance in the atmosphere”. Companies utilizing EvoSwitch’s services can show logos that indicate that they use a climate-neutral datacenter on their websites. |
