UK Web Hosting Provider Fasthosts Keeps Websites Online Despite Severe Weather Conditions

July 25, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – UK web hosting provider Fasthosts (http://www.fasthosts.co.uk) has managed to keep its customers websites online despite some of the worst weather conditions in the UK’s recent history, it was reported yesterday. The company’s Gloucester data centre has maintained service using generator back-up facilities. Less than 0.05% of the company’s customers have experienced a reduced service for a limited time despite being in one of the worst hit regions of the UK.

Monday July 23, 2007 saw Fasthosts’ deploy newly refitted diesel turbines to counter local power supply outages. The company’s data center uses an advanced APC X UPS system that provides uninterruptible power to all servers. The power supply was switched without interruption when the mains electricity failed. Local mains power was restored early Tuesday morning.

“We are satisfied that our disaster recovery plan worked well and were able to uphold our uptime promise to our customers,” explained Fasthosts’ CTO Mark Jeffries. “I am hugely proud of our staff for their commitment during the difficult trading conditions”.

By design, Fasthosts’ data centers are above street level and did not flood. Despite weather conditions in Gloucester disrupting the telephone service, Fasthosts' has maintained a reduced telephone support service (8am to 8pm) from offices outside the area. The company is though maintaining full technical support services via email.
