UK Companies Increasing the Role of Email in Response to Tougher Trading Conditions
December 2, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – UK companies are increasing the role of email in response to tougher trading conditions, it was revealed recently. UK web hosting provider Fasthosts UK has suggested that companies in its customer base of “hundreds of thousands of SMEs” are creating “50% more email accounts each month”.
According to the company, from May 1, 2008 to October 31, 2008, Fasthosts UK saw a 50% jump in the number of new mailboxes being created on a monthly basis. In addition, the company notes that the average size of a “UK business email account is decreasing”, which the company suggests, is “a reflection of how businesses are handling emails more efficiently”. Fasthosts suggests in November 2007 the average total business mailbox size was 881MB whilst 1 year later the average size stands at 749MB, a reduction of some 18%. Fasthosts also suggested that the growing popularity of MS Exchange, mobile devices and online storage services might well have enabled businesses to better handle email.
"Over the past year, email has become even more important for businesses,” explained Fasthosts’ CMO, Steve Holford. “When adapting to tougher trading conditions, email can often provide an efficient, cost effective alternative or work-around for a variety of workflows. In addition to more email accounts being created, we have also seen increased demand for mobile functionality as business users seek to increase productivity on the move".
